The Chicago film industry is returning to its place of origin. Starting in March, a new production hub will rise from the ground at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios. With a unique leaseback deal, New York-based real estate company ALE Group purchased the historic film studio in January for over $20 million, with plans to re-purpose the space into a production hub for the film, television, and digital media industries. The film studio has been home to nearly 100 film and television productions over the last 80 years. With nearly 20 renewal and replacement projects, the plan for Cinespace is to keep the productions that are already filming at the studio and provide more space for production companies to film in Chicago. In the future, Alex Pissios and his family members will not be involved in the active management of Cinespace. TPG has brought its team to lead it forward. Alex Pissios is responsible for bringing NBC producer Dick Wolf of “Law & Order” fame to Chicago, with Wolf using Cinespace to shoot TV shows such as “Chicago Fire”, “Chicago PD”, and “Chicago Med”.
