Bittel was born and raised in Miami, Bittel escaped Communism after Soviet troops invaded Budapest and his father was killed defending the family. Bittel’s family eventually settled in Brooklyn, New York, where he attended public schools. He earned an undergraduate degree from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and later studied real estate development at New York University’s prestigious graduate school of business administration. Bittel has been living and working in Miami for more than thirty years. In addition to his busy career as a successful entrepreneur, Bittel is also an avid art collector. His work can be seen on the walls of many museums, public buildings, and galleries worldwide.

Bittel launched his career as a real estate consultant in New York City, where he worked with architects, engineers, and contractors to develop world-class buildings in Manhattan. He eventually moved to Miami, where he founded Terranova Corporation, an award-winning commercial real estate development company based in South Florida.
Bittel is a founding member of the Miami Chapter of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and has served as chairman since 2006. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Rotarians International and the United Way, along with numerous other charities and non-profits in South Florida.
Bittel is a member of multiple professional groups. One of them is the National Council for Exemplary Public Schools. This organization monitors high schools throughout the U.S., and he is also involved with Rotary International and Kiwanis International, where he holds positions within their international service projects.
