Frances Townsend is a Harvard graduate, Executive Vice President for Corporate Affairs, Corporate Secretary, and Chief Compliance Officer at Activision Blizzard. She has been with the company since 2010, when she was appointed to her current position following a distinguished career in public service. Before her years at Activision Blizzard, Townsend worked as the Assistant to President George W. Bush and Homeland Security Advisor, focusing on Counterterrorism from 2005-2009.
Her work garnered national attention during the 2007 Virginia Tech Shooting, and she received numerous honours for her service in public office, including the Presidential Meritorious Executive Award, the Secretary of Homeland Security Excellence Award and an Honorary Doctorate from St. Andrews University in North Carolina for her work as a public official. She also received several honorary degrees, including Franklin College’s Distinguished Alumni Service to Society Award and Utica College’s James C. Trieber Award for Lifetime Achievement in Law and Public Service. Townsend is also a member of the board of directors at Chubb Corporation, one of the world’s largest property and casualty insurers.
Townsend’s executive vice president at Activision Blizzard has focused on creating a safe and secure environment for employees, players, and customers. She has been integral in developing and implementing compliance programs for the company and creating policies and procedures related to anti-corruption, data privacy, and information security. Townsend is also responsible for government relations and public policy at Activision Blizzard. In this capacity, she has worked closely with legislators and regulators on video game ratings, intellectual property protection, and online safety.
